5.5" Mini Pearl Painted by Jaime Baker

Mini Pearl 5.5" painted to an absolutely luminous bay sabino by Jaime Baker of jbakercustoms.com. Jaime painted the mare and I painted the base. I also applied felt to bottom of the base to give it a nice finish. Jaime's paintwork is much sought after in the model horse hobby and I can see why having held this model in my own two hands. These photographs don't do her paintwork justice.

Her white markings are soft and warm. The edges of the mare's sabino markings especially are finely done with a suggestion of fine hairs extending into ever so slight roaning. Its hyper fine work. Her eyes are simply fabulous and I love her subtle dapples! The hooves are nicely detailed and shaded. Jaime has managed to pack tradition scale details into this small mare. The overall effect is soft and natural. I'm really pleased with how she turned out and I think you will be too.

This mare is the larger of the two Mini Pearls I have available on my site. She stands approx. 5.5" at her highest point. The smaller resin version is in scale with SMs.

This Mini Pearl is available for $550. + postage.

New Arabian Sculpture

This is my new Arabian resin sculpture shown here almost completed. I started this sculpture in 2006 made a lot of progress and then set him aside. He then sat in my cabinet with finished horses as is up until a few months ago. We will begin casting next next week. The edition will be limited to two molds which is approx. 65 per mold depending on how well the mold holds up to casting. We will begin taking orders for this new horse sometime in the next couple of weeks as soon as we have a number of castings in stock.

Bint Soraya

An Andalusian

This commission piece is a customized Gomez resin I did for collector in Canada. I gave him a cobblestone base, a flashier trot and a fuller mane and tail. The coat was created with oils, pastels, colored pencils, acrylics and Pearl Ex.

Caroline Boydston sent me some pictures today of our 2009 NAN Auction donation collaboration. Caroline painted him a dramatic dapple grey, my favorite! The horse is an Indian Fire resin which I customized. Here is the first picture. I’ll post more tomorrow.

This year's NAN Auction will be held in Portland, Oregon on Saturday June 27, 2009.

For interested parties who cannot attend the NAN Auction in person, NAMHSA is pleased to offer proxy bidding for the NAN Auction lots. Every year a substantial number of pieces are sold to proxy bidders! Proxy bids will be accepted by the Auction Coordinator beginning on Saturday, June 6, 2009. Proxy bidding will conclude on Saturday, June 20, 2009 at 10PM Eastern (7PM Pacific).

My War Horse

With this sculpture I am trying to create a realistic Arabian in a pose reminiscent of some old paintings. I like to picture him wearing a native Arabian costume in a desert setting. He has been sitting neglected in my studio for quite some time now while I've been completing other projects. I'd set him aside so that I could come back to work on him at a later date with fresh eyes and I started working on him again yesterday with some new ideas in mind for his creation.

I don't have any idea when he will be completed. I'd like to say he'll be done in the next couple months, but I'm probably being overly optimistic , then again maybe I'll surprise myself :-)

Indian Fire Arabian Horse Sculpture Preview

Indian Fire is a resculpted version of Indian Silver in progress.

Due to some casting problems the edition size of Indian Silver has shrunk from an estimated 75+ horses to almost half that. Therefore I have decided to release another version of him.

Indian Fire will have a raised head and neck, a new flame like tail, smaller & slightly repositioned ears (I think they look a bit too far apart here - he is a work in progress), and I have decided to make this guy a talker.

I'd like to thank Marilyn Jenson for glazing and showing this newest bone china Monya for me.

Marilyn took him to a show in Phoenix recently and he won First Place in Custom Glaze Workmanship and Reserve Champion of the ENTIRE Workmanship division which included artist resins, customs and the custom glazes. He also won second place in the Arab/Part Arab breed class, and Reserve Champion of the Custom Glaze division (all breeds). Congratulations Marilyn! This bone china Arabian Monya is available.

Desert Muse is a newly completed Musetta resin painted by Tammy Myrold. Tammy did a gorgeous job painting her coat and her detailing is wonderful. In fact I like her painting technique so much that I asked Tammy to do a portrait of the real Musetta for me which she has graciously agreed to do.
